The country is in the greatest despair and sorrow. However, it was good note that he left peacefully.
Although I am not any political kind of person but I bet every single one of us know how much Lee Kuan Yew has contributed and made a huge impact in each and every one of us.
There will no be doubt that without this man, there will be no Singapore. Without him, I will not be here and same goes to every one of us out there. "He was Singapore."
While I woke up and scroll my twitter and received news on the passing on of LKY, I rushed to tell my dad and immediately on the radio.
It wasn't fake this time round and my heart sank.
Being taught from parents about him and then to my social studies textbooks and history lessons, without him, Singapore will not be what it is today.
It's hard for my eyes not to tear while I was doing my makeup preparing and rushing myself for work while my dad playing the radio and all I hear are the classical sorrowful music.
Like former President S R Nathan, taken from the straitstimes, "his mind never stopped working as he mulled over the issues, big or small, that confronted Singapore. If he travelled anywhere, he was asking something he saw could be applied in Singapore. He would grill anyone he met for ideas that could be useful... he was totally preoccupied with our survival and prosperity"
Look around us, we are able to live in comfort, great luxury with a clean and green environment, great infrastructure, clean water and most important of all, safety that some countries does not have.
To be able to achieve from a third world to first country within a short period of time in less than 50 years was not an easy job.
Thank you Mr Lee, for dedicating your life in building Singapore.
Thank you for believing in us, thank you for always putting the good of Singapore and welfare of the people in the priority.
Thank you for that promise and actually delivering it for us to proudly call ourselves Singaporean and most importantly giving us a home. A home sweet home.
You sir, deserve my utmost respect.
"50 years ago, you wept for the nation, now 50 years later, the nation weeps for you"
It's a really great pity he couldn't be able to witness #SG50, the moment I heard about him admitted to hospital and was in great danger, everyone was worried and hoping him to be well.
Kept hoping he would at least spend SG50 with us but miracle didn't exist this time.
Tbh, I was long intending to attend my first ever actual national day concert on this day since I never actually attend a real NDP except for the primary rehearsal.
I was quite anticipating since it would be a new environment and could maybe catch a glimpse of Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong in real life or smth since I have never met them in person or was even at a small distance for the past 19 years.
It's really a pity.
Can't wait for Friday to finally pay my respects to him after my work ends.
However, with this, it makes SG50 a much more memorable year and I agree, the only way to continue his legacy is for us, Singaporeans to unite as one and making Singapore a much much better country, maintaining the top in the world, making him proud in a safer place that he is in.
Thank you. May you Rest In Peace.
Your hard work and efforts, sweat and blood you have put in will never be forgotten.
My deepest condolences to LKY's family members. Seeing Lee Hsien Loong delivering his speech, swallowing his tears and have to give that public announcement in 3 different languages is extremely heartbreaking and hard to watch.
Lee Kuan Yew will forever be etched in our hearts and minds.
We will continue to teach the younger generation about him and he will always be our good role model.
You will always be our hero.
ps/ regarding the tweet that says, I get (veryveryvery) annoyed when someone says "Ohhh, you guys don't even care about him when he's alive, now that he's gone everyone starts to care, this shows that everyone only gives a fuck when a person's gone"
OH PLEASE. DON'T TURN SUCH INCIDENT TO SOME TUMBLR QUOTE PLS LOLS.
I mean maybe this really applies to some of the people who have ZERO fucks when a perosn passed, I don't think this should apply to lky (because everyone DO give a fuck about him and is someone we all look up to in our hearts) or some other famous people most of the time.(eg, cory monteith)
I mean, is it wrong for everyone to express, isn't it a normal reaction when a person's dead you will be expressing everything.
Yes, in normal days too that people should express, but c'mon lah the moment he fell sick, so many wished him via many means.
Even if those who never wished or mention him, I bet in our hearts he is one guy that we are deeply praying that the worst to happen will not come.
I dont think everyone needs to keep showing, I think secretly silently praying, wishing, respecting him in any normal days is also another form of caring.
You don't have to show concern on a person 24/7, if he is in your heart, you secretly pray in your heart, once in a while you show your concern, on his bday or smth you show your gratitude, I think this is good enough.
Or even if you didn't talk or show any concern about him before but you know about him, his stories, when he's gone I think the least everyone could do was to give their wishes and say whatever they want to say.
One example like a random primary school kid or some Kindergarten children, although they don't know much about LKY or much even mention about him, as long as they know LKY Good deeds and shows a little sadness is good enough too. \
sorry, I can't explain or find a better way to argue that statement but as long as people get my point then good.
I am just very sensitive with that quote. Like ew stop.
